De Sint Willibrorduskerk in Holwerd is gebouwd in de jaren 1776-1778, op dezelfde plaats als zijn tufstenen voorganger. Het nieuwe gebouw moest aansluiten bij de 13e-eeuwse toren en zo ontstond de opvallende L-vorm in de plattegrond. Deze vorm is het uitgangspunt van het kunstwerk.

Het lichtwerk tilt het grondplan van de kerk de lucht in. De balken in het gewelf bepalen de vorm en het ritme van de lichtlijnen die zich bevinden in de middellijn  van de kerk. De markante diagonale steunbalk wordt geaccentueerd door een leegte in de compositie.

Baken Het Ziltepad was een serie licht kunstwerken gemaakt in vier kerken langs de Waddenkust in Groningen en Friesland en georganiseerd door Hi-Lo Art.

The St. Willibrordus Church in Holwerd was built in the years 1776-1778, on the same site as its tufa-stone predecessor. The new building had to match the 13th-century tower, and so the distinctive L-shape in the floor plan was created. This shape is the starting point of the artwork.

The light work lifts the floor plan of the church into the air. The beams in the vault define the shape and rhythm of the light lines that are located in the centreline of the church.  The prominent diagonal support beam is accentuated by a gap in the composition.
