In Shanghai the MyPeople Project is partnering with the V Art Center to host the exhibit Solar Plexus, opening on Friday, June 1st 2012. The solar plexus is a central network of nerves in the abdomen, and if enough force is applied, a hit to this area can even cause the heart to stop. In that vein, as the first tangible result of the MyPeople Project, and the product of collaboration between many participants, Solar Plexus is a key element in this endeavour. The exhibit will run for one month, highlighting both new and existing works from the participating artists. This will be the first time that most of these works have been shown in Shanghai. While all the artists involved are well established in their home countries, and have exhibited internationally, for several this will be their first time exhibiting in China.
Presenting work from these twelve established artists, while promoting this unique networking model with an open dialogue, and exchange of ideas, knowledge, skills and cultural experiences between both artists and audiences, locally and internationally. An online and offline combined platform will be used for the interactions between artists and audience. The aim is to provide artists with a platform for extending their networks, and for learning how to work with different cultures and mentalities. This will be accomplished through direct interaction with other artists, galleries, workshops, various art professionals and audiences in Shanghai, London and Amsterdam.
